Heavy rain to continue across Bengal as twin cyclonic circulations intensify

Twin cyclonic circulations have intensified weather conditions across West Bengal, with the India Meteorological Department forecasting widespread rainfall over both North and South Bengal this week. Heavy rain is expected in Kolkata on Monday and Tuesday, accompanied by gusty winds of 30 to 40 kmph. Large amounts of moisture entering from the Bay of Bengal are expected to sustain the rainfall, while an orange alert for very heavy rain has been issued for Murshidabad and East Burdwan, with yellow alerts in several other districts.

According to the Meteorological Department, one cyclonic circulation has formed over northern Bangladesh and adjoining areas at an altitude of about 1.5 km above sea level. Another cyclonic circulation is present over northeastern Bihar and adjoining areas at around 3.1 km above sea level. An east-west trough extending from Haryana through Uttar Pradesh and Bihar to the southern tip of Assam is also influencing weather conditions across the region. Light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms is expected across the remaining districts of South Bengal during the next few days.

North Bengal is also likely to receive widespread rainfall on Monday. A yellow warning for thunderstorms has been issued for all districts from Darjeeling to Malda, with light to moderate rain, thunder, lightning, and gusty winds of 30 to 40 kmph expected. Heavy rainfall warnings have been issued for Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, and Alipurduar on Tuesday, while Kalimpong is under a yellow alert for heavy rain on Friday.
